One of the places I check frequently besides the standard ones is ebay.  
I'm also building
an electric motorcycle and I've purchased three motors that should all be  
compatible. With
delivery they were all less than 200 bucks.
Some also don't care for cutis controllers but for some applications they  
should not be a
problem, just pay close attention of voltage and current capacities and  
give yourself a fair
amount of overhead. Some of the other things I purchased were new IGBTs at  
a fraction of the
cost of wholesale to build my controllers with.
